Open and edit any DWG file using any version of AutoCAD

I had trouble opening an Acad 2000 file in 2005 last week; the file was corrupted according to 2005 & caused it to crash. LT would not open it either. Solidworks opened the file just fine, reported several errors, then fixed them and allowed me to export the now cleaned file. Sigh.
