Is there any other software that lacks some backwards compatibility?

I know MS Project refuses to even consider reading files newer than itself, which is expected, but Porject 98 directs me to a non-existent viewer, but so far newer versions can save-as an older verison.
I guess the Sony playstation 3 has pulled the BC plug and set the brake for some congfigurations of their hardware.
