An old tailings dump is reclaimed using high pressure hydraulic monitoring. The slurry is being processed in an acid leaching plant. The remaining tailings are pumped to a newly constructed tailings facility (new tailings dam). Preliminary hydrogeological studies indicate a possible leakage of 2,000 m3/day at the new tailings facility. To me, this seems quite a lot. What is your opinion about this? Many thanks in advance, Pimhein Kool

Pimheinkool:

Any leakage of a tailings facility should be considered a
problem and demands attention without delay. Im not versed
in this but Jim Cassie a geotechnical engineer with BGC
Engineering out of Calgary did work on our tailings facility
in the Canadian arctic. He is very knowledgeable and could
probably steer you in the right direction for answers.
