We have a new LT200MY and are seeing huge amounts of thermal growth in the ZB axis. In a no load condition we have recorded up to .0065” in just over 2 hours. We have located one other shop with this same problem that saw almost 2 times this amount of growth and was wondering how many others are out there.

Thanks

BJ

Z axis growth is usually because the thrust bearings are far from the chuck. Look at the parts manual and see where the thrust bearings are located in relation to the chuck.
Also contact an attorney about returning the machine as a defective design, not meeting the advertised tolerance specifications.
We had a new VMC that did not have the advertised spindle power, and until the attorney got involved, the dealer and manufacture would not do anything. After a couple of weeks the dealer paid us for our troubles and came and picked up the machine.
