Oil for a supercharger.

Hello. I want to ask You about oils for a superchargers (eaton), what type is it, i've found that they're synt, but nothing more like viscosity, special additivs (maybe AW, EP ? ), TAN, oxidation etc. If anyone have got some spec sheets, characteristic of this oils i'll be very thankfull. I think that this expensive oils can be replaced by ATF or synt engine oil, what do You think about it ?

I am not completely familiar with the eaton blower, but I expect it has 2 shafts that counter rotate and mesh togethrt to pump air.

I expect one shaft is driven by a belt drive at an extension of that shaft.

The other shaft will be driven by a gear drive between one end of the shafts.

The shafts will be supported by bearings at each.

The drive end with gears should be lubricated with a manual transmission oil.

The bearings at the drive end can be lubricated with the gear oil and the bearings at the other end are probably packed and sealed roller or ball bearings and need no further lubrication.

If you buy the oil from a GM dealer, it's too reasonable to waste any time on an alternate. Ford charges a bunch, probably because they have few applications/low volume. Buick/Pontiac dealers sell a bunch and as I recall it's only $8 a pint. (Admittedly very expensive per unit volume, but it's the "right stuff")
 
Ok, I don't deny that the best is special oil destinated to use in blowers but I want to know why it's so expensive. I've found that viscosity and flash point is very similar to 0W/20 0W/30 engine oil , or ATF, I'm still interested in more data about characteristic of this oils . So I'm curious why we shoud pay sick prize for this product ;)
 
I'm sympathetic, but the reason should be obvious -- you can only get it at the dealer! (Maybe Summit or similar?) I wouldn't trust Pep Boys.

I'm sure the oil is made to be compatible with O2 sensors (it gets burned) and the seals on the blower.

My son had a TBird SC for 2 yrs and used less than 1/2 the bottle after changing it once. Are you using a lot?
 
I know that in sc it's not necessary to use a lot of this oil, and i'm not using it a lot. All i want to know is characteristics of this oils. Strange is, that for all engine, gear, hydraulic oils full spec i available, but in this case everything is mystery.
 
You can always send a sample of the oil off to have an analysis performed. That would answer many of your questions.
