Oddball O-Ring Gland Design

Hello Forum,

I'm reverse engineering a brass water fitting in a low pressure application. On one side there is a face/flange seal with an O-Ring groove that matches traditional O-Ring gland dimensions. The other side has a radial O-Ring seal with 2 grooves for 2 O-Rings. Those grooves do not match any one set of standard O-Ring gland dimensions per Machinery's Handbook etc.

On my part the width meausures .17" and the depth .12"

The width matches the recommended width for a 3/32" thick O-Ring with one backup ring

However the depth matches the recommended depth for a 1/8" thick O-Ring in a dynamic application.

The water elbow mounts to a very large diesel engine so I suppose the application could be considered dynamic.

Anyone know of any other (free) sources for this type of information?

Do you have examples of the seals that are actually used, or just the parts of the gland?

Absent the actual seals, I'd guess that maybe the radial o-ring energizes a TFE slipper, which would account for the extra depth.
