Hello please can anyone suggest . 10 yrs ago we panelled our hall with 3/4 inch plywood and used adhesive to bond thin sheets of oak veneer as the final surface finish. One area had a different adhesive but we do not know what was used.
Now after 10 yrs, instead of the attractive light oak appearance, this one area has become very blotchy with large dark stains that are steadily expanding. The query is:-
a) what is happening
b) What can we do to arrest or cease this discolouration
c) How can we revert the stained area to its original appearance.
ANY COMMENTS APPROVED

You are probably screwed.

The different adhesives are behaving differently and one is bleeding through -- unless you have a water leak somewhere!!

Find the OLDEST SMARTEST painter you can - and maybe he can help. Bleaching might work - but don't try unless you can test a spot.

You could re-veneer it?? or dark stain it??

Good Luck

It sure smells like a water leak.
