You can learn how to apply this code from your design office if you're in the practice.
Otherwise, you can pull a search for "lateral force procedures" or something and you'll get samples from other model codes out there like say the IBC or something.
Concepts are generally the same regardless of code.
I would recommend Seismic Design Handbook by F. Naeim. It is generally something you want to keep on your bookshelf if you're practicing structural engineering in a seismic area. This book covers seismic load derivation and distribution (equivalent static) which would be the same (more or less) as the kiwi code.
