Does anyone know of an on line or downloadable tutorial for using NZS 1170.5:2004 Earthquake actions - New Zealand?

This is a strange request.
Are you a student?
You can learn how to apply this code from your design office if you're in the practice.
Otherwise, you can pull a search for "lateral force procedures" or something and you'll get samples from other model codes out there like say the IBC or something.

Concepts are generally the same regardless of code.

I would recommend Seismic Design Handbook by F. Naeim. It is generally something you want to keep on your bookshelf if you're practicing structural engineering in a seismic area. This book covers seismic load derivation and distribution (equivalent static) which would be the same (more or less) as the kiwi code.

I hope this helps you.

I am used to seismic design using various codes and wanted to familiarise myself with the NZ code for an upcoming project. Since posting I have borrowed a copy of NZS 1170.5:2004 and find it is quite similar to other codes I have used.

p.s. any openings where you work for a 3-5 month contract senior structural engineer?
