a little off topic but I am looking to buy billet Aluminum and large blocks of Nylon and Rhen for CNC applications. Can anyone suggest where to purchase this stuff in billet form?Ryerson sells Aluminum Billet.... And you call large blocks of Aluminum Billet... what do you call large blocks of Rhen or Nylon6?

Hi Bart,

We haven't used any specific name for solid plastic stock (talking
Engineering plastics here). Here in NZ we have a couple of firms that
specialise in this sort of thing and they describe it as simply Rod,
Tube or Sheet depending on its form. Sheet in this case can be quite
thick such as 50mm or 2". Cast Polyurethane is in smaller Lumps and these are referred to as billets.

Not sure if this helps.

Regards, Brent

It's a bit difficult to make (thick)blocks of thermoform polymers so the rare shape may not have an official name...All of the shapes Brent mentioned are extruded.

If you do get a name I'll be sure to use it in my plastics class
