NX9 - Density attribute in Family Parts

I took an old family part file and did a save as giving it new numbers to all the family members. Unfortunately I was forced to copy all of the spread sheet info and recreate it to get it to create its members with the correct file naming. There was one particular attribute in the spreadsheet that causes me a problem. DENSITY.

The old spreadsheet had 7830.64 for the density for all parts. When I tried to save the spreadsheet, it gives me a message saying there are not materials with this density and will not save the spreadsheet data. Looking on-line, I found a place where it says.... If no parameters are transferred from PARTsolutions, the density gets a default value of 7830.64 kg/m³ by NX.

I am guessing that I just need to assign a material to these and it will give the correct density, but these parts are made from 8620 steel and I dont see this in the assign material list.

Basically, I am just starting to get confused on this and can use some direction here.

Hi,

I'm not sure how dealing with Partsolutions affects your options here, but you can normally do the following:

1) Remove density from the chosen columns of your part family spreadsheet - unless the density changes across family members, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

2) Create the material you need in the NX material library (menu-tools-materials-manage materials-create) and then assign it to your model (menu-tools-materials-assign).
