The drawing file I am using will not allow me to add dimensions to a view. I can pick the features, the dimension will show and when I pick the location to place the dimension, it disappears. When I go into EDIT > UNDO, it shows that a dimension was created, but I cannot find it. Another problem in the same file, I try and add a note to the drawing, but it also disappears. I must have toggled something off because I was creating dimensions earlier, but I can't figure it out.

I forgot to mention that when I add a new sheet to the drawing, I can add dimensions onto the second sheet.

Do you have your work layer "invisible in view"?

I forgot to mention that the drawing itself is also considered a view in this case.

I had this problem a while back and a part clean-up fixed it.

File > utilities > part clean-up

EWH - That solved my issue!! I went into FORMAT > VISIBLE IN VIEW > highlighted the sheet and made visible my current layer. Thanks for the quick response.

These little issues can be very frustrating!

I'll try your tip as well to maintain my file. Thanks for the response.

There really is no need to do it. The "visible in view" thing fixed it, and that is something that I have to look out for too when I add dims inside the drawing view ... it is an easy thing to overlook.

You should do a part clean-up every once in a while to get rid of unwanted things in your part file. Once a day would be a good habit to get into.

I've made it a habit to make every layer visible in the drawing view as default. If I need to add any annotations or somethiung that I don't want to appear all of the time, I may then make their layer invisible in view. Other than that, the current layer settings determine what is visible in the views that I add to the drawing.
