NX11 - Team Center Error

We have a tool we revved to 002. Then we revved up one of its units to 002 and made changes in that file. Did a save all in the tool so everything saves.

If he has his load options set to "As Saved" and he opens that tool from scratch, everything loads right. That unit loads up as rev 002 so he can continue working on it. If he changes his load options to "Latest Released then wip", and tries opening the tool from scratch, that unit will load as rev 001 only. Does this sound correct? As Latest released then whip, is it supposed to load children files to the latest release or the latest wip?

The reason I ask is that the person who always releases our files in team center says they always load as "Latest Release then wip", but she is not able to get that unit that was revved up to load in the tool.

Here is the reason we think it may be a problem with the file. Every time the modeler who revved it all up revs up that unit, he gets the below error. He has deleted the revved up file and did it again trying to get different results under different load options but every time, he gets that same error.

Just as a test, we deleted the latest revision and opened the released version. We removed everything out of it and deleted any solid bodies and removed even any drafting. Basically we turned it to a blank file other than attributes and then he tried to rev it up to 002. He still got this same error. So we know it is something with the file and not with any component or bad body inside of the file.

Bonus question but unimportant.... What exactly is a tag anyway? lol

Hi,

your revision rule says "latest released, work ip".
This means it will first try to load the Latest Released (by Date or Alpha Numeric) and if there is no Latest Released it will load the Work IP.

Your error message tells you that Teamcenter (NX-manager) can no longer determine which Item Type was used. Therefor it cannot attach the reference to the dataset.
How did you delete the Revision in Teamcenter? Are there any references left which should have been deleted?

Each Entity that you create in NX recieves a tag (number). This tag is used by NX to identify it for later purposes.
f.i. When you place a dimension, it needs to know to which line it is attached to be able to edit it later on. The identification is done with the tag number.

It is a weird thing. It seems that by definition, Latest Released then wip would always load the latest released files. The only time it would load an unreleased file is if it has never been released before. Then it would load the work in progress.

However, everyone here uses Latest Released then wip, and in several years of this, we have never run into this problem before. It has always loaded the latest works in progress.

Even in this one tool. There is a unit_002 and a unit_004 where both have been released at rev001 in the past and has been revved up to rev002. When you load the tool the next day, Unit_004 will load the WIP which is rev002. Unit_002 will load the latest release of rev001.

The modeler believes it has something to do with two clamps that dont load. They both have MDA#'s which we believe is the type of number TeamCenter automatically issues a new file. So that doesn't make sense that two clamps would have those numbers in the unit. Then on top of that, when we do a search, those numbers do not seem to be in TeamCenter. So it seems someone added two created files for them to begin with, then later deleted the files while the unit is still expecting them to be there.

Cowski, you are correct. They modeler wants to do a test on it tomorrow first. Something to do with importing the unit or that rev of the unit again or something. Whatever it is he is going to try, if it doesnt work, I think we will have to contact GTAC.

We run TC that was installed with the "rapid start" settings. The load option we use the most is "latest working" which tries to load "precise", "working", or "has status (any status)" in that order. If one of our users does a "save precise" on the assembly, it will open how they saved it regardless if there is a newer revision or released part. You can customize these load rules, so you may need to verify what exactly your load rule is looking for and in what order.

The error message that you are getting is concerning and still worth a call to GTAC, IMHO.
