Hi All,

This thread quite helpful for those crossing over from NX to V5 thread560-119066

Just wondering though, what's the deal with layers in V5?
In NX, I use layers quite extensively to seperate datums, sketches, sheet bodies and solids (I do mould design). From what I understand (correct me if this is not the case) you don't use layering in V5 but, instead, you use "hide/show"
Would someone be so kind as to explain?

Also, is there a feature, or workbench, in V5 that is similar to "Direct Modelling" feature available in NX?

Thanks in advance to all

Another option is to use a geo set for each layer that you would creat in UG and hide show the geo set like you did layers in UG. BTW Catia does have layers but I don't think that anyone uses them.

Don'T use V5 Layers
Create a geometrical set or a body (its like a layers in UG)
when you define it in work its like Worklayer in UG
forget working with noshow work with the feature tree with hide and Show (f2) .

I'm intersted why you move to V5..

UGperson,
thanks for the input

uwam2ie,
thank you as well. I'm making the move to V5 because I started a new job and although they have a seat of NX2, they want mould design to be performed in Catia V5.
The good news is that I will be receiving some formal training in the near future. I've also been told that if you know NX2, the transition to V5 is pretty smooth... I suppose time will tell.
