NX journaling

Hi,
I have to do some layer setting for models which is a routine task which has to be done for all the models of same type.
I want to reduce the time of this tasks which includes moving of specific files like points,solid bodies to a specific layer and changing the colours.

I want to create journals to reduce the time.
Can anyone tell me where can I find study materials to learn this journaling from the basics .

I am from mechanical background .Understanding these journal files is being little difficult. Anyone please help

and reading this forum and asking questions. I know enough to get by and it's difficult to get that far on your own. I would search for threads for examples of journals. Try to pick out patterns and try to manipulate it if I could.
