I'm re-creating parts using reference parts in NX 9. All was going well until I hid the reference part and then it automatically hid the new part I created. Is there any way to overcome this?

What exactly do you mean by "using reference parts to create new parts"?

Are you creating new geometry in the same file as the reference part?
Are you adding the reference part as a component to the new part?
Are you referencing geometry from the ref part (wave linking) to the new part?

The last one. I'm referencing geometry from the reference part. But I have never used the "Wave Link" tool. I don't know how to use it.

To create a wave link there must be some assembly structure. This will often (though not always) take the form of an assembly with 2 or more top level components.

[pre]asm.prt
╠compA.prt
╚compB.prt[/pre]

You can now link geometry from compA into the part file of compB.

Is this the type of assembly structure you have? Now when you hide compA, compB is hidden as well?

We've been creating separate components in one part file so I guess this is a different scenario. Thanks for responding. I resolved the issue by using the measuring tool and not constraining the sketch to the reference part.

It might be more stable to reference previous sketches or expressions of the reference parts. The measure tool also has it's problems with stability, I try to only use it as a last resort.

Also if you can, try to take cowski advice on assemblies with multiple components.
