NX 9 Performance

We've been running NX 9 for about a month with about 100 users. The guys working with large assemblies are complaining about how everything is running slowly.

Also, users who make parts with patterned holes report updates are painfully slow. Sitting and watching each instance of a pattern update at about 2 seconds per hole.

Seems like something is really wrong. We've tried a few Customer Default setting changes, but it isn't helping.

Thoughts?

To start with, make sure that all of the Pattern Features have their 'Feature Method' set to 'Simple' (if you can't change it to 'Simple', NX will tell you that so it's safe to change all of them that you can).

Thanks John.

While that seems like a good solution (going to SIMPLE) these patters are for threaded holes. Whether we make them "Threaded Holes" at the start, or "General Holes" with Threads added (and feature grouped), SIMPLE is not allowed, and we are stuck with the crazy-long update times.

Is there something else we can try?

They are Symbolic Threads.

Pattern forces you into "Variational" whenever you add threads - which seems to really slow everything down.

Use a "threaded hole" in the new hole command, which creates only one feature for your hole.

You can then use a simple pattern (which only allows for selection of one feature).

That gives me a failure Report:

Update Warning and Failure Report

************************************************************

------------------------------------------------------------
PATTERNS
------------------------------------------------------------
Pattern Feature [Linear] (8) / Instance[5][1] Error: Parent features failed to update

Sorry - The last Failure report was user error (me, ha!).
Ignore that message.

The problem we are having is that we have Counter-Bored, Threaded Holes. The multiple nature of this hole forces into "Variational" and is killing our performance.

OK,

To avoid using variational in this case:

1. Create the counter-bore part of the hole only (could even just extrude a circle)
2. Pattern that (simple pattern)
3. Create a threaded hole through the centre of the c-bore
4. Pattern that, using simple and pattern type "reference", by selecting the original pattern

...we'll give that a try. Thanks!

No probs, I just tested and you could even use Pattern Face on the synchronous toolbar for the first pattern (the counterbore).

Pattern face is a light-weight pattern as all instances are identical.

It's defined slightly differently (in NX8.5), but you can use it as your "reference" for the following feature pattern.
