I would like to do a quick check on an assembly - the information would include all of the components, quantity, part name, part number, and the material of each component. How?
I assume you're asking to do this without actually opening the Assembly file itself, correct?
I ask, because all of this information can be found once an Assembly has been opened, even if the Components haven't, by looking at the Assembly Navigator, if you've enabled the appropriate columns of course.

If the materials were assigned using the Tools -> Materials function, then each Component has a materials Attribute assigned to it. After verifying what the name of that attribute is, by checking the Properties -> Attributes of one of the Components, go to the Assembly Navigator, place your cursor over some 'white space', press MB3 and select the Columns -> Configure option. When the dialog opens, at the bottom there is a field where you can enter the name of an 'Attribute' which will add a new Column showing the value of that attribute for each Component.
