Nvidia shows Quadro Plex graphics system

I guess at the recent Siggraph convention Nvidia showed their new external box graphics unit. The flash animation shows two racked together for 8 GPUs.

So you would use this in a multi-user environment, and have 2-4 comuters hooked up to this and it would do the heavy lifting when it comes to graphics?

This unit has 8 VC in it and the cost is $18,000... i don't see many people upgrading to this thing.

This is designed to hook up to one computer (at least at this time). So that one computer would have 8 graphics engines on it. If you were in a company needing hi-res real time rendering or realtime animation then this would be the thing to have. A bit expensive though.

For example, if you are designing cars then you could have the whole thing rendering in realtime at full size on a projector.
