I beleive the answer will depend on what you modify to reduce NOx. If you add a DPF and SCR (not likely w/HFO & sulfur), the backpressure will hurt your exh. temps and fuel economy If you retard timing, you'll hurt fuel economy if you're injecting water, I dunno.
