Not asking to find file anymore

Using SWX 2005 SP1.1

I have an assembly made up of about 10 parts.
I took those parts and moved them to other directories, but left the assembly where it was.
I have done this before and it used to, when I opened the file, say it couldn't find file, and then would ask me to find it. I would then redirect it to the new location.
Now it has not been asking and it just supresses them.
When I right click on the part name and select 'set to resolved', it thinks for a minute but then it just stays the same. It doesn't ask me to find the file that way either.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Open the part files seperately, leave them open and go back to the assembly. You should now be able to resolve them in the assembly since they are in memory.

In the future, use SWx Explorer to move files around. This way, they will not lose their references.

Sort of. I have succesfully used this method when just a few parts need to be moved, but it is not the recommended way. A safer way is to copy the parts (that you want to move) into the destination folder & then do a Save as of the assy and redirecting the references to the copied parts when doing so.

As MElam suggests, SW Explorer is the easier way, however it cannot move files, at least not in SW2004. It can only rename, replace & copy files. So basically it does what I explained above, but in a more user friendly GUI.

Thanks for the answers.
I ended up rebooting and now it is working like it used to. Strange.

Thanks for the 'saveas' and opening the files first option. I will try those in the future.

I typically try to use Solidworks Explorer as much as possible, but I have been having problems with it since I switched to 2005. When I go to rename a file and hit the button 'find where used' it never finds anything even though I know there are things. Hence the opening the file and redirecting method.
I'm just not sure if it's the files I am working on, received from another company, or if it is a problem with SE.

Thanks

Check the Search rules in SW Explorer to make sure the directories to be searched are listed. It will only search where it is told to search.
