The problem with that method is that a nose cone is not constant in width. They taper in from the sides and down towards the tip. My guess is that they are designed with free form surfaces and then thickened.
I suppose you could use the sweep for the lemgth and then trim the sides in with a free form surface. Then apply blends to smooth out the shape.
The original 2004 Williams nose looks to be fairly constant in width but all of the others have side taper.
