Good Morning,

What are the minimum velocity requirements for disc non-return valves? Is there any manufacturers literature or design standards anywhere that recommend minimum velocities to prevent valve chatter?

Regards
John

See attachment. Also check the valve manufacturer catalog - maybe they have developed more accurate empirical equations for their products.

John, Presume you mean dual plate check valves ?
Agreed, there seems to be a great deal of clap trap on the net re these min velocities for check valves, and they dont seem to differentiate between the min required velocity for vertical upflow and horizontal orientations either. If you ask me, it has more to do with rho-v2 through the check valve than with velocity. Also the type of spring used to load the check valve doesnt seem to be cranked into the criterion.

Yu might like this post - , which shows the impact of very low pressure and poor placement ( large volume U/s and vertical mount).

Vendor data is the only reliable one you will get, but my estimate for gas would be > 1m/sec and > 0.5 m/sec for liquid

Hi every one,
thanks for the explanations,
dear bimr, what is the title of the book you provided that page from?
thanks
