Nitrogen Storage tank desing Code 1

Hi everyone!

I am from south america and where I work, we never designed a cryogenic tank before. Now, we are in the process of getting information for future designing of liquid Nitrogen Storage Tanks. Do you know under what code or international standard we can design these?. As far I know API 620 scope covers up to -270ºF, and liquid Nitrogen reach up to -320ºF.

Any information would be very helpfull!!

Athough API-620 ends at -270F, it is typically used for liquid nitrogen service at crygenic temps. API is now working on a new version of Appendices Q and R that will go down to -320F to accomodate the nitrogen service

In addition to API-620, ASME BPV is commonly used in the US. Industrial gas companies for example, have thousands of tanks each that are ASME coded for all cryogenic service including liquid helium. In Europe there is a PE directive which is roughly equivalent to the ASME code, but I'm not that familiar with it.

I gueesed that API 620 would be a good reference. My doubt with this standar it's about the materials requirement. I know the impact test is essential in the selection of the material. To do a charpy test test you normally use nitrogen to get the specimen to a low temperature like 320ºF and it gives you some criteria to accept or reject the material after the test is done. What happend in our case? is there any especial requirement for the material that are going to be used?
