Is there anyone who has experience with location of flame arresters in a tank farm with interconnected piping to manifolds and flares or Vapor combustion units ? It seems NFPA 69 requires deflagration protection between individual tanks but its not very clear. Which API standard adresses this issue?

You need to get hold of a competent sales or application engineer from one of the major flame arrestor companys. Make sure that they make detonation arrestors too. They are similar but not the same devices. Try googling Protectoseal, Groth, Shand & Jurs for starters.

They will know the standards that govern their equipment and the correct application information.
