What is exactly the difference between a .model file and an .exp file. I have been doing searches for several hours on the internet and all I have found is "exp can contain text and hatch information". That is not really as technical an answer as what I am looking for.

Hi,

A .model is a CATIA V4 file.

A .exp is like a zip file made with CATIAV4. You can have several .model, and plenty other kind of file in a .exp

With V4 you can 'unzip' .exp, with V5 you can unzip only .model file from .exp

Thank you itsmyjob.

Exp files are primarily a way transferring models between different Catia projects.
An EXP file contains all the project table data required to read the Catia model.
In later versions (I can't remember which) you could set a declaration called prjmodel.
The result of this was all models contained the required project data within themselves
and you did not need to create Exp files to transfer the model to a different Catia project.
