We are working to add new flare station in our plant. Our plant specializes in the production of biogas from digesters, which is then utilized by our gas turbines. The project at 90%, I noticed the new flare required 3 minuets air purge cycle prior to beginning the ignition sequence to ensure no potential explosive gas exists inside.
However, In cases where we experience a loss of gas turbines and need immediate pressure relief for the biogas, our current flare system does not require an air purge cycle and can provide relief promptly. The new flare operation(Need three minutes to start) could lead to increased pressure within the digester, potentially resulting in damage of the digesters seal. Are there any specific codes or standards that mandate the air purge for flare. Thanks in advance for your help.
