I have a customer that has requested an expolsion proof motor on their metering pump. They also want an expolsion proof VFD to accept a 4-20mA signal. Does anyone know of a manfacturer of such a beast, or have any suggestions? I am almost thinking they should just buy a normal VFD and mount it in a safe location and run proper conduit and using fire stop instead.
Thanks

An EXP VFD is non-sense.

Yes, either mount it in the safe area or mount it in the hazardous area in an interlocked purged cabinet.

Gotta vote with Keith.

Put the VFD somewhere safe. Rigid conduit and a couple of seals is much less expensive than trying to contain and cool a VFD.

Good on ya,

Thanks,
I had the same feeling. I let my customer know they could use a VFd mount it in a safe location.
