I need to find a transformer. input will be 115V or 118V. needs to have output of 12v and around 10amp or 20amp. I have looked and looked but everything I find has a much lower amperage, like around 1 or 2 amp. If it would convert to 12volt DC, that would be even better. Keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about electrical engineering! My boss asked me to find this. does it even exist or am I on your proverbial wild goose chase?

Just by a 120 vac to 12 vdc power supply. It will come out of the box ready for connection.

Sola is a good source
Newark Electronics is a distributor as well

If you need 10 amps at 12 vdc, you will need about a 120 watt supply.

I forgot to add that it is Sola-Hevi Duty

Mouser is also another source.

Buy a 10 or 20 amp battery charger.
Beware of starting amps ratings.
A charger may be rated 2/10/100 Amps.
2 Amps is a trickle charge setting.
10 Amps is the working setting or normal rating.
The Higher rating on a charger rated for starting boost is a short time rating only.
Note, a 12 volt charger will deliver about 14 Volts.

Bill is correct also, but I would be careful of a low end battery charger. Many have little or no filtering on the DC output and rely on the attached battery for that purpose. Without a battery connected, I have seen DC loads toasted by the AC ripple from a cheap charger.
