Need steel beams to span a 26' area 1

I am needing information as to what size beams to use as perlins over a 26' span. The pitch is 4/12 with beams on 4' centers. The length of the building is 40' with the ridge in the center.

Let's see, you didn't give dead load, live load, wind load lateral bracing, roofing material and you want us to design a member. You also didn't tell us if the roof is to be made of steel, timber or legos.
Even if you gave us this information, I don't think there's anyone here willing to risk your career designing individual members without understanding the whole structure.

You are asking about fundamentals in design or what for you questioning? It is a basic design approach which is there in any text book or in formal desig procedures. With this kind on insufficient information , You may be guided as fundamentals ratger section size.

I agree with the previous posters, too little information is provided to properly answer this question. It I do not understand how the purlins spanning 26 feet would work in a 40 foot long building. Could the purlins actually be rafters spanning from a ridge beam to the walls? Anyways, depending on the loads, depending on lateral support, depending on deflection requirements, depending on geometry, the steel beams will likely be 14" deep plus or minus 2".
