Need reference: were temperature sticks once carcogenic? 1

I think I once heard or read about a specific range of temperature sticks (which are used to measure eg. preheat temp), that could not be sold/produced anymore because they would cause harm (and I'm rather sure it was cancer).

I did not find anything specific on the web, because my search terms are rather vague.

Anyone with a better memory as mine can either confirm or deny this (+ source if possible)?

And yes, I'm talking temperature sticks, not the Thorium-O2 doped Tungsten electrodes or anything else.

If you are talking about temperature indicating crayons like Tempel I have;t heard of any warning for the crayons. Our lab had the full range and several hundred of these crayons, pellets, etc.
One area that id draw attention was soapstone markers as some contained Asbestos. Our environmental group,ESH, went crazy over this because a lot of material came into the site that was marked with soapstone.

If soapstone kills, I better pinch myself to see if I am still alive. I have used plenty of it, and probably the "A" type back in the day, but I rarely sniffed it.

Get material safety data sheets on Tempilstiks for info. on hazardous ingredients.

You should play the lottery tonight. From my information only about 60% contained Asbestos and couldn't be determine except microscopically. The solution was to say it's all bad.
i never picked my teeth with a Thoriated Tungsten either, but have seen it done many times.

Years ago we had heater that had a soapstone exterior panels and top where my mother did some cooking. They still make them.

I know that some of the old Templi formulations were toxic (heavy metals), and some could damage stainless steels (halogens) but I don't recall any concerns other an asbestos that could be related to cancer.
