So you're saying that you can't model steel rod buckling with residual stress using a frame element? Can you elaborate? Fyi, to define a solid rod as a frame element using Version 11, you have add new frame property for "concrete" type, then change material to steel.
Having said that, it appears that there is a bug or limitation in SAP in extruding a circular area to a solid. I hadn't tried it until you posted. I think there is a way to draw solids without extruding using open GL
