You have 10 litres mixture of 50% aqueous ethanol at 23C and were required remove all ethanol from the solution. Estimate the heat transfer coefficient depending upon the type of the vaporiser. You are free to make additional assumptions in order to perform the calculation, but they must be stated clearly in your report. Thermodynamics aspects such as heat transfer area, enthalpy, heat, work, entropy and evaporation rate, whichever applicable, must be calculated.

I have a few questions regarding this project,
1) Is reboiler the same as vaporiser?
2) What are the types of vaporiser?
3) What are the differences between the types of vaporisers?

Thanks in advance!

1) Yes
2) Different companies/industries use different terminology. Vaporizer, reboiler, calandria.
3) They can differ in heat source (steam/hot oil, etc.) and the thermodynamic path (natural/forced circulation) taken to deliver the design heat duty.

Sounds like a fun project. Enjoy!

Good luck,
Latexman

To a ChE, the glass is always full - 1/2 air and 1/2 water.

You can find more answers in any book with the title of "Process Heat Transfer". A reboiler supplies heat to the bottom of a distillation column. That reboiler will be either be a kettle or a vertical thermosyphon. Vaporizers will be all other boiling applications.
