NDE Solvent Welded Pipe Joint PVC or ABS 1

Are there any techniques to NDE a solvent welded pipe joint. Materials such as PVC and ABS are joined by this technique whereby the pipe in put into the bore of a socket. I was after a method by which one could examin the coverage of the solvent weld to determine if it was complete?

I can not think of a non-destructive method except maybe ultrasonic. The interface, if incomplete, should give you a echo. Destructively, to verify the process, I would dye the solvent and then make up the joint and cross section it in a bunch of places and look for the dye.
