most of the codes such as ASME secI have cleared that the NDE shall be done on the "entire" weld.but in ASME B31.1 I couldn't find this word. so what shall we do about this?
does this mean that we can choose the percent for it or not?
what i have seen and believe to be a good practice (in general) is a sliding percentage, i.e.
xray 10% of each welders welds, if 10% fail then an additional 20% should be xrayed, if you still get failed welds then 100% xray would be implemented.
however, after the first set of failed welds the particular welder would be disqualified and the process started over with the new welder.
fazel1,
From an inspectors point of view, when I see a reference that a weld is to be subjected to NDE, unless otherwise specified, I assume 100% coverage. This would be the safest route to take. Discuss it with your inspector, if you have one, or your customer/end user.

Keep looking in B31.1, it must be a table similar to sec I or VIII-1, I do not have the Code w/me so i can not answer.
any one from power pipiping should answer your question.
I see theat the last 2 posts do not address the Code, but opinions.
er
fazel1,
Now that I'm next to my codebooks, paragraph 136.4.1 and Table 136.4 of Chapter VI of the 1998 Edition of B31.1 addresses required NDE.
