NBCC joist span tables

can anyone tell me why the span tables A-1 in the 1995 NBCC do not give the same results for wood joists for residential occupancies as I obtain using first principles

Saskatchewan is the only jurisdiction of know of that uses the 1995 NBCC... most use the 2005 edition.

I don't have my copy at home, but I usually use a program called Woodworks and I have that loaded on my machine here...

Can you give me the loads and spans?

The code specifies a live load of 40 PSF for residential occupancies. I was evaluating the load on an existing telepost which was overloaded when using 40 psf. Upon checking how the tables were created I discovered that they appeared to be using a lesser load. I remember reading somewhere in the code (and I can't find it now)some time ago that they were relaxing the residential live load somewhat for some logical reason which I have forgotten. I was hoping that the posts my clent used would be OK if such was the case. I use the full live and dead load when designing teleposts in houses
