First of all, I know this question may not be appropriate for this forum, please don't red flag me! I've posted on 5speeds dot com and chevytalk dot com and not found an answer yet so I'm trying here.
Can anyone tell me what the factory specification (nominal and tolerance) is for the centerline distance between the mainshaft and the countershaft for a late '60s vintage Muncie 4 speed transmission? And, I've heard anecdotal evidence that reducing this dimension can marginally strengthen the gearbox. True or not?
Any and all comments welcome or if someone will point me to the source of this information I will be most appreciative.
Mike
