MPI after flame cutting

Is it mandatory to preform MPI after flame cutting, according AWS?

Not per AWS - assumes proper preheat of the region prior to cutting.

AISC requires MT of coped areas on 'Jumbo' [very thick & heavy] sections, IIRC.

You might want to read AWS D1.1:2010, clause 5.17.3 regarding flame cut access holes. There is a requirement for MT or PT if the flange or welded section is thicker than 2 inches.
