I have a motor out of a golf cart. The brushes do not angle straight in at 90-degrees, with the commutator. I do not have it where I can put a load on and run it, but I cannot tell a difference by listening to it running unloaded. Speed, noise, and Amps appear to be the same either direction. What are the pros and cons of running it with the commutator turning into, verses away from the brush?

Suggestion: It should not make any difference according to the following referenced White Paper. Visit
for:
When a brush is at some angle to the commutator, as opposed to radial, there is a loss in the spring's force due to the brush angle. This loss is about 6.0% with a 20°angle and 9.4% with a 25°angle. Today most manufacturers supply brush springs that provide constant pressure throughout the life of the brush.
