Good Afternoon,

I am conducting a hazardous area classification study that involves surveying electrical equipment at a particular process unit and I have come across a GE motor with an FCXSD type enclosure. Does anyone have any information (or know where to find such information) on what area classifications this motor enclosure is good for? The motor currently sits in a Class I, Div. 2, Groups BCD area. I have checked the GE website, as well as NEC and IEEE searches, to no avail and am in need of some help.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Last I checked, there was no electrical equipment rated for Cl1,Div I or II, Group B.

Actually, they is a plethora of equipment with that rating; switches, pushbuttons, circuit breakers, enclosures, motors, lights...

A TEFC motor is considered good for a Group B (at least to the OSHA requirements I am working off of) because it is totally enclosed from the atmosphere thus keeping hazardous gasses from entering into an area of the motor containing arcing/sparking components. I'm looking for either an area class indication, a temperature rating, or a NEMA equivalent to the FXCSD enclosure type so I may make recommendations on whether to replace the motor or leave it as it is.
