Does any one know of research into extracting energy from the rise and fall of the tide? Regards,

Have you tried a search on the web?

Try using Google.

I remember some discussion of the Bay of Bundy in the past.

I also am aware that there has been some preliminary work on using wave action to create compressed air (with the thought of using the compressed air to drive a turbine).

EdF (Electricity de France) operate a large tidal barrage scheme at La Rance (near St Malo). It has been in operation for many years, and produces about 240MW of power. La Rance estuary is ideally suited to such an application, since it is :

a) Large
b) In a region with high (10m) tidal range
c) Has a relatively narrow estuary
