Hi there!

I got a report from the lab for CU test.

there are 2 mohr graphs:
1.mohr stress circles based on effective stress at max deviator stress
2.mohr stress circkes based on effective stress at max stress ratio.

what does each graph represent for slope stability design?
which phi and c should I take for design-from both graphs, for just one of them??

I have never seen mohr circles plotted using max stress ratio. I have only ever assess phi and c' based no max deviator stress at failure.

Can you show both graphs.

Generating mohr coulomb plots is based on inspecting the stress strain curves then determining peak and residual strain increment, and commenting on how they vary.

The FHWA Geotechnical Site Characterization manual comments on this. I think Holtz and Kovacs does as well.

I have only ever seen MC plots for peak deviator stress at failure. What is the definition of max stress ratio?

The two plots you posted have the same interpretation, so there is no difference in this case you posted. That said, I would use the max stress data if I were using mohr circles.

The better option is to the p-q plots to interpret the data.
