I want to be able to type in the symbol for a centerline (C over an L) using a regular keystroke (shift+some number key like 1). Currently we do it in two steps...type the C and then create a separate text string with a single L positioned over the C (two separate elements). At my old company the font we used permitted us to just type in (shift + 1). The text editor would show an exclamation point but the text that appeared in microstation showed the CL symbol in place of the exclamation point. Does anyone have any ideas or can you supply an Engineering font with the CL symbol? We actually have a few fonts with the CL symbol but we can't put these fonts on our engineering plans.
Any help would be appreciated,
Robby

Only if the font is set up for the symbols can you do what you've been able to do elsewhere. As I recall only a few fonts allow this and that is very frustrating.

You may want to call microstation to verify this.

Why don't you just make a cell and use it?

Ciao.

Using the combination of shift and full stop works using engineering font (3) for me. I assume the eng font is a standard one.

TO CREATE NEW USTATION TEXT SYMBOLS

1. Use “FONTEXPT” (.exe file type) to export a font type in the font resource file (.rsc file type) to a cell library.
2. In a 2D drawing make that library active.
3. Place a cell and drop it, make sure its scale is 1:1.
4. The frame of the cell need to be on lv=63.
5. Construct the symbol using lv=1-62.
6. Create a cell using the correct nomenclature.
7. Go to Utilities>Import Fonts
8. “Open” the “Source File”, hilite and “add” (you can add multiples).
9. “Open” the “Destination File”, hilite and “OK”.
10. If you are replacing a font, 1st hilite and “Remove”.
11. Hilite the new font cell libary in the “Source File” and “Copy”.
12. “Done”.
13. MDL APP>FONTEDIT to view the font with new symbols.
14. Place new font.rsc in proper directory. (mdl l cfgvars).
15. Find the ASC value. When you want to insert the charater tpye "\and the ASC value".
