Hi, everyone.
I've been trying to understand how to model a filled metal deck on top of a steel beam in SAP2000. I've learned that to ensure composite action, the filled metal deck must be modeled directly above the steel section by using insertion points.
However, I'm still confused on how to model the concrete-filled metal deck itself. I've been searching here for answers but haven't found anything helpful. For starters, the filled metal deck must be modeled as membrane(?) and not as shell elements. Since only the concrete above the flute of the metal deck is considered for composite action, does that mean the thickness of the filled metal deck is equal to the thickness of the concrete above the flute?
For example, the thickness of the filled metal deck is 120mm. The thickness of the metal deck is 50mm. Does that mean when modelling the filled metal deck, the thickness of the concrete that I should use is 120-50=70mm ?
