I have been using SKM for quite a few years for short circuit analysis and load flow calculations. I have always modeled VFD drives and DC drives as a Non-Motor Load. Is this the best and most accurate way to model these devices?

If the concern is the short-circuit contribution, then you should model as non-motor load, since the typical VFD will not contribute to fault current. The only exception would be regenerative or four-quadrant type drives. These can supply current to an upstream fault, but at a lower value than a motor running across-the-line.
