Mirror part greyed out

my mirror part is greyed out (Insert/Mirror Part) and I therefore can't mirror the part. Any suggestions as to why?

I forgot to add it a sheet metalpart

Sorry lads , I might have answered my own question. I could mirror the sheet metal & cut the piece off. Is that the correct way?

Pick the plane or face first that you want to mirror about,
then it will be available....
