Someone can help me with the minimum bottom thicknesses in tanks at the end of the in-service period of operation?
A friend said that I can't use a tank with a thickness below of 6.0mm (API 650: 5.4.1-All bottom plate shall have a corroded thickness of not less than 6.0mm) but a think this is the minimum thickness only for design condition. In the API 653 - 4.4.5 "Unless a stress analysis is performed, the minimum bottom plate thickness in the critical zone of the tank bottom defined in 9.10.1.2 shall be the smaller of 1/2 the original bottom plate thickness (not including the original corrosion allowance) or 50 percent of tmin of the lower shell course per 4.3.3.1 but not less than 0.1 in. Isolated pitting will not appreciably affect the strength of the plate." In my situation 2.54mm. Can I still used this tank with a bottom thikness of 4.0mm?
