Hey guys, how much area do you need for surface of welds. For example if I have a baseplate that has 1/2" extending past each side of the column can you still weld a 3/16" fillet weld on that?

Thank you! also, does anyone know how to delete a thread with the new interface?

I think you need 1/16" allowance...

Probably click "report" and let the admins know it should be deleted. The old interface didn't seem to really delete them anyway.

why delete it? It's informational.

I believe that the thickness + 1/16" is only applicable if you`re welding to the edge of a plate. In this case, the weld would be to the face of the base plate.
I`d refer to AISC 15th p 8-20. A 3/16" weld needs a 7/16" shelf.

Thanks... I'll take a gander.
