Minimum Suggested Bearing Width at Stone Ledge

Anyone know any rules of thumbs as it applies to the suggested minimum bearing width for stone of a certain width/height?

I'd arrange it so that tension stresses were not present in the base mortar joint and compressive stresses were not exceeded.
