ACI 10.5.4 says the slabs of uniform thickness Asmin in the direction of the span shall be the same as 7.12
say i have a 6" one way slab. according to 7.12 my minimum is 6*12*.0018=.1296in^2/ft. i need double layer bars. through calc i know #3@12 which is 0.11 in^2/ft is good enough for bending. then my question is does #3@12 T&B meet the minimum reinforcing requirement?

i guess my question is, 10.5.4 is the minimum requirement for the bars on the tension side or bars on the whole cross section?

thanks.

The reinforcing is for temperature and shrinkage, so it's the whole cross section.

I think it means the flexural reinforcement.

newdnbea,

Check out this (long) thread as it deals extensively with the issue of 10.5.4 and tensile steel based upon 7.12:

JAE,
Has he does something requiring penance?

HA!! hokie66 - I wondered if you'd say something. Yes - that is one long drawn out back-and-forth, eh?
