Microscopic scale

Do somebody know here any theory about mechanical properties of materials (plastic, rubbers) at a microscopic scale. Is there any apporximation?

I am looking on contact surface, by simulation and experiments... contact between rubbers. I would like at least to make approximation by theoritical calculation, that is why I need such information on mechanical properties at a microscopic scale. And I don't know what are the theory on this domain.

Could you advice me some of books?
